Relationships and Health Education (RHE)
From September 2020, it is a statutory requirement that all schools in England are teaching Relationship and Health Education as a fundamental part of the curriculum. As part of implementing the RHE curriculum, schools must consult with stakeholders to ensure there is a general consensus on our approaches to policy and the curriculum content. Understanding Relationships and Health Education – a guide for primary school parents
We follow the 3D PSHE scheme to teach children about Personal, Social and Health Education. This is delivered through weekly circle times, themed lessons, and whole-school assemblies that encourage reflection, empathy, and discussion. To help children engage with the world around them, we also explore current events through our ‘Picture News’ assemblies. These sessions provide a child-
friendly way to discuss topical issues and help pupils develop a deeper understanding of the modern world we live in today.
Through our PSHE curriculum, children learn about friendships, emotions, staying safe, and making healthy choices. We place a strong emphasis on kindness, respect, and resilience, helping children to build the social and emotional skills they need both in and out of the classroom. Our lessons are designed to be inclusive and age-appropriate, giving every child the opportunity to express themselves, ask questions, and grow in confidence. To develop children’s understanding of PSHRE and provide them with a foundation of life skills across all contexts(home/school/community) and time spans (primary/secondary/later life).

To ensure children are taught and remember the appropriate knowledge and skills relating to PSHRE, we have created a whole school progressive breakdown of the national curriculum expectations. This draws on the skills and knowledge being taught across all subject areas and hopes to contribute to the development of key concepts and themes in a deep and connected way.
Our PSHRE curriculum will ensure all children are not only taught subject specific vocabulary but also provide opportunities for them to use such language within the correct context with confidence and fluency.
